Woodland
resources...
Richard and Anne use as many of their natural resources
as possible. Their water comes from a spring that serves two households.
The overflow from the holding tank has been converted into a peaceful
three level water garden in the backyard that leaves the last pool and
flows back to the woods. Firewood is cut and split from the property for
winter heating. Rather than burning debris from small projects, Richard
and Anne use a PTO chipper to create wood chips which are used on the
walking trails.
Several years ago while visiting, Amanda saw a use for
the undercut that comes when a tree is fallen. She created decorative
watermelon wedges for family gifts. Kristine took the log brand and log
tails from house construction and fashioned decorative hangings or doorstops.
Richard took Western redcedar from the property and constructed a hand
split rail fence. When in season Anne can't pass a blackberry bush without
picking, which soon becomes jelly for family and friends.
Recently 3 outbuildings have been constructed
by Richard using wood milled using a Wood Miser portable mill from
trees felled on the Gales Creek property .
